TEHRAN (AFP) — Ali Akbar Velayati, an adviser to Iran's supreme leader, has ruled out standing in presidential elections slated for June 2009, Iran's labour news agency ILNA reported on Sunday.
Tehran - Mohammad Khatami, Iran's former moderate president, yesterday announced he would stand in the June presidential election as the country's beleaguered reformists attempt to deprive Mahmoud Ahmadi-Nejad of a second term.
