Berri, Future Movement optimistic on cabinet

BEIRUT: Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri and Future Movement figures expressed optimism on Wednesday with reference concerning the formation of the upcoming national unity cabinet before the end of the month. Following talks with Prime Minister-designate Saad Hariri in Parliament, Berri told reporters that "nothing prevents the formation of a new Cabinet before the end of the month. The government would be formed in due time," he added.

Morocco sets date for 2009 local elections

Morocco's King Mohammed VI announced Friday (October 10th) that communal elections will be held on June 12th, 2009, APA reported. More than 16 million voters will choose some 24,000 counsellors. Candidates representing 30 political parties will run in the elections. Following a call by female deputies last week that one-third of the seats be reserved for them in the next elections, Moroccan Prime Minister Abbas El Fassi said the government is considering ways to improve female representation,

Iran to hold presidential election in June 2009
