Egyptian parliamentary elections will happen in three stages

The Egyptian president marked yesterday that the General Egyptian Parliament (The People’s Assembly) elections will begin on November 9, and that they will happen in three stages. Mubarak issued a decision that the second stage will occur on November 20 and that the last stage will happen on December 9.

The decision stated that the first stage is set to include Cairo and eight districts. It also set the date of the first meeting of the new parliament as December 15. The National Democratic Party is competing against the rest of the opposition parties and independents for 444 seats out of the 454-seat parliament. President Mubarak appoints the remaining ten.
