Majlis polls to be held on Oct. 27

Times of Oman, Muscat — The Ministry of Interior has declared that Saturday, October 27, has been set as the poll date for the Majlis Al Shura 2008/2011 sixth-term elections.
In a statement to Oman News Agency (ONA), an official source at the Ministry of Interior said yesterday that citizens registered in the electoral register have to turn out that day to cast their votes and select their appropriate representatives at the Majlis Al Shura.
The source called upon all citizens who meet the election requirements to submit their applications at the offices of the walis to have their names registered before the end of July, the deadline for submission of applications and record’s transfer from one wilayat to the other.
Earlier, the main committee for the Majlis Al Shura sixth-term election approved 717 candidates for Majlis Al Shura membership, including 20 females to represent 61 wilayats in the different parts of the Sultanate.
